- Always have at least two people in the boat when water-skiing or tubing. One person can drive and the other person can "spot" the skier. More Tips.
- Kill the engine when the boat isn't moving. This protects from inhaling exhaust, from propellers, and from being stranded by a runaway boat.
- Go over the hand signs so skiers and riders know how to communicate with the boat:
- Okay (touch thumb & tip of index finger)
- Faster (thumbs up)
- Slower (thumbs down)
- Stop (hand slashing across neck)
- Go Back to the dock or shore (pat head)
- Maintain equipment. Do not use frayed, knotted or damaged bindings, fins, flotation devices or towropes. When tubing, only use rope that is specifically designated for towing inflatables. Click here for more on tubing safety.
- Be sure rope is free from all body parts before starting.
