Boater's Guide to Being Green

DiscoverBoating.com offers boaters quick tips to reduce their carbon 'wake'. Check out our brand new section on Green Boating.

Green & Clean Boating Tips

  • Clean safely. Look for the EPA-Certified "Design for the Environment" DfE label, which identifies cleaning products that have minimal environmental impact and are safer for you and your family. You can find a list of eco-friendly products at www.greenseal.org.
  • Reduce fuel consumption. Easily cut down on fuel usage by reducing cruising speeds, properly trimming, regularly tuning their engine, making sure the hull is clean and taking shorter trips. Read More.
  • Respect all marine animals, and reduce your speed to give wide berth to whales and manatees. Watch out for coral reefs and other vegetation.
  • Support local marinas that have earned the label “clean marina”. Find a clean marina near you.
  • Stow trash. Never dispose of garbage into the water. Take advantage of facilities on shore and at marinas to recycle plastic, glass, metal and paper.
